Everybody has a happy place. That place that you think of when you were in 7th grade health class and they had you do meditation. For some it is the sunny beaches of the Bahamas, and for others the life filled streets of NYC. Others imagine reeling in the 45 lb King Salmon in Alaska or exploring the Amazon. I have done all of these, and yes they all have their individual pleasures none of them compare to the peaceful consistent beauty of the Family Cabin on the Weber River.

The Cannons have been going up to this area for over 100 years. From the early days as the summer grazing fields of my great grandpa John M Cannon’s livestock to today little has changed in this valley.

As a kid we would spend almost two weeks of our summers up at the Weber Cabin with my aunts and uncles and cousins. Those were some very happy times.....Listening to Uncle Paul sing, Uncle Dee's Blueberry Pancakes, playing Rook with Grandpa, hiking with Uncle Joel, talking for hours with Aunt Doralee, Grandma's fudge, listening to Uncle Kim tell stories, looking at Aunt Colleen's fabulous photography, walks with Uncle Val and even the occasional quick visit of Uncle Mike......these were the best of times. As the family grew bigger and bigger the three bedroom one bathroom cabin groaned under the sheer number of people that we tried to cram into it. The decision was made to move to the next generation, so instead of me going up as a nephew and a cousin, I am now the uncle and brother. I am not going to lie I miss seeing my cousins and aunts and uncles. The cabin is not so much the pine wood panels or the non OSHEA approved windows that fall down into the walls that make it the cabin, it is the people and the knowledge that you are stuck with these people in a tiny remote cabin with only one toilet that make the cabin the cabin.

Ok now that we have all that sentimental crap behind us let’s see some pictures of this year’s cabin trip.

Well I started out this post talking about how I missed having the older generation up at the cabin and I want to end this post by saying how glad I am that along with the shift in generations I have picked up another title, not just uncle or brother but husband. This is Cassandra’s second year up at the cabin but first as a fully fledged Cannon. There is nothing like sharing your favorite place in the whole world with your favorite person in the whole world. This picture sums up our time at the cabin perfectly, thumbs up and relaxing TOGETHER.

If Life Was Boring

If Life was boring, I would be blogging! But alas, it is fun and the weather is warm and the sun is shining! So I am outside instead of inside blogging! Or at work....either way, that is my excuse for taking almost three months to update my blog! :) Summer has been wonderful! But first let's start updating a little before school got out!
 

 Happy Cinco De Mayo!! Yes we did paint mustaches on ourselves, yes it was my idea, and yes we did go out in public like that!! But first, we watched a documentary on the cartel...it was the only mexican-ish thing we could find on Netflix! :)

 Then, you guessed it!! We went to Cafe Rio! We went there so as not to offend anyone who was actually from Mexico....besides, the way people celebrate Cinco De Mayo, it's more of an American Holiday anyway!

 We also washed our car! Look at that sexy man! His stache actually looks real and even matches the thickness of his eyebrows :) Also, we only listened to spanish music in the car. Of course!!

Last but not least, we did something completely American so as not to forget our true nationality! ;) We went to see Sherlock Holmes 2 which was amazing!! And got a large popcorn and a large drink!! Nothing is more American than that! :) It was a fun day!


Another fun thing we have done this summer is go to the Willow Park Zoo! Sure, there's not a lot to see, but it's only $2 and I still think they have some pretty fun animals to see for that good price! Also it gave Steve and I a nice cheap date! :)

Happy 4th of July! I have to say I am so grateful to be a part of this country. To be free to choose what we will learn, what we will say, how we will practice our religion, who we will marry, and the list goes on, is so important to me! I know a majority of the world is not able to enjoy the freedoms we do in this land of Liberty. I know I am so blessed to be free and live the American dream. I especially understand this since my dad is originally from Colombia and they do not have the same freedoms we enjoy. my dad grew up very poor and unable to find job opportunities. My sweet grandmother sacrificed so much for her family and strived to do what she knew was right even though her country frowned upon it. My dad did everything he could to come here to America and fight for freedom. He found the American dream and wanted more than anything to share it with his family. So he brought everyone over from Colombia to experience these freedoms. And of course because he came over and met my mom, I am here. :)

I was so silly and forgot to take pictures yesterday! But I had such an amazing 4th of July!

First, we got up early and went down to Raging Waters AKA Seven Peaks Salt Lake as it is now called since they bought it out, thanks to neither of us working and to our POAP (Pass of all Passes)! :) It was such a blast! And we were originally going with one of Steve's co-workers Marlo and his wife Kimmie and their two beautiful children London and Burke! They are the cutest kids I know! (Aside from my nieces and nephews and cousins of course) It was fun to see them! But they were with their kids a lot. But my brother Seth and little sisters Nayley, and Marianna decided to come with us. It was a lot of fun with them too! They loved the slides and it was good to spend time with them. Then later my mom came! It was such a good surprise since I don't see her very often and she had a lot of fun with us! All in all, great day and great tan! (and burn for Steve ;))

Next, we went to the Pincock's house because it was my sister-in-law Penny's birthday! (Yes on the 4th of July!) It was fun to spend time with the nieces and nephews there because they are pretty dang cute! And we ate some delicious French dip sandwiches and ate some great cake in the shape of a castle!

Finally, the best part of the day!! We went back to Brigham and watched the Fireworks with a bunch of Steve's friends. I love fireworks! Always have and always will. They are beautiful and I really do love the big booming in your chest as they burst and the colors are magnificent! Best 4th of July yet! :)

So far it has been an amazing summer! It is hard sometimes with Steve working 60 hours a week!! And I only work at most 36...3 to 4 shifts a week. So the other days I am home alone. But I keep myself busy! I am so grateful for a wonderful husband who wants to provide for me and so works SO hard so we are not in the poor house. He is such a diligent and hard worker and a wonderful husband. And when he is home, he is home and we get to do some fun things together! Life is good, I can't complain. :)
